As we mark our first year of publishing, Rudow’s FishTalk Magazine is overjoyed to announce that we’ve been recognized for editorial excellence thanks to our winterizing article and the Notes from the Cockpit column. Every year at the Miami International Boat Show, Boating Writer’s International hands out writing awards for articles that have been judged by other writers in the field. First, second, and third place awards are given in 17 categories. And for the 2017 editorial year, FishTalk won two!

The winterizing series “Winterize Your Boat in 5 Easy Steps” and “10 Winterizing Disasters: Don’t Do This!” Took first place in the Boat and Engine Care and Maintenance category. And angler in chief Lenny Rudow’s column Notes From the Cockpit eeked out a third place award in the Columns category.

This was the 25th year these awards have been handed out, after the anonymous entries into each category were judged by four writers. Articles are judged on the complexity of the writing, its flow and transitions, accuracy and research, effective use of language and sentence structure, originality, and whether the article entertains, educates, and inspires.

“Totally stoked is the best way I can describe the feeling when I heard,” said Rudow. “There are plenty of publications that have been around for years, decades even, without getting this kind of recognition from the industry. To see FishTalk not just get an award but actually peg two – including a first place – in our very first year of publication is rockin’ cool.”

We here at FishTalk would like to thank both our readers and our advertisers, as the magazine wouldn’t be possible without the support of both. And we’ll take this opportunity to re-commit to our original promise: to bring you the very best how-to/where-to fishing information possible, so you can (hopefully!) catch more, bigger fish.
